"Ain't no future in the past"

Forgive me but I was listening to a little Vince Gill over the weekend as I was driving, and this one line stood out like a light, "ain't no future in the past". Man, what a message and yet so many people live a meager existence stuck in the past. So many struggle to relive some glory days or long for a lost relationship or are all bound up in bitterness over the "what ifs" of life. The Apostle Paul said it this way, "forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. You can't get the prize reaching back, only by reaching into the future. You may need to simply let some things go today. One thing is for sure, you can't lay hold of that thing you are praying for in the future if you are tied up in the past. Take an inventory and see what's sinking your ship today. When a ship is about to sink an assesment is made and only the most critical things are kept on board. What is it in your past that needs to be thrown overboard? Remember, life is short and there "ain't no future in the past"!
